LCC Case Manager presents at Nebraska Legislature hearing

The Nebraska Legislature held a committee informal hearing on Reentry and Vocational and Life Skills (VLS) services at the Nebraska State Capitol yesterday. Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC) Case Manager Rowan Taylor presented on the Reentry Ambassador program, the Inner Circle reentry program, and facilitating Thinking for a Change (T4C) -- a cognitive behavioral program.Read more

Incarcerated women train reading dog at NCCW

Incarcerated women at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) recently trained Travis, a reading dog, who now works at the Lincoln Mall. The pupose of a reading dog is to allow children who are having trouble with reading for whatever reason to use the dog to read to. This eliminates the fear of being laughed at or rejected. NCCW is working hand in hand with Domesti-Pups in developing a new training program for Emotional Support (ES) dogs. Community Justice Center completes Restorative Justice – Victims Impact/Empathy class at LCC

The Community Justice Center completed a Restorative Justice – Victims Impact/Empathy (Life Skills) class for restrictive housing at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC) on Oct. 5. One-hundred percent of participants rated the class as excellent. “The workshop taught me to value not myself, but taught me how to better myself," one participant said. "It helped me to deal with my emotions and understand were my anger comes from.”Read more

CCC-L hosts cookout

The Community Corrections Center-Lincoln hosted a cookout on Sept. 26. The menu included fried catfish (made by Warden Charlie West), BBQ pulled pork and brisket (made by Facility Maintenance Leader Jerry Rotschafer and Facility Maintenance Specialist Dave McGuire) and french fries (made by Assistant Warden Shaun Settles). The Omaha Correctional Center (OCC) held its Third Quarter Staff Recognition Ceremony on Sept. 19. The following team members received awards: Warden's Award -- Accreditation/Compliance Manager Rob Britten and Corporal Kirk McKen. Operations Award -- Facility Maintenance Specialists Denly Thompson and David Moore. Additionally, Sergeant Mike Mutum was named the Employee of the Quarter. TSCI named Business of the Year by Auburn High School’s Future Business Leaders of America class

The Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) was recently named Business of the Year by Auburn High School’s Future Business Leaders of America class. Administrative Assistant and Public Information Officer Boris Ilic was the first to present to the class. Over the next six months, the warden, associate warden, human resources manager, business manager and a major will also present information on career paths that led to positions with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS). The speakers will share interesting facts about TSCI and the positions they hold.Read more
